Juliet's Cooking Adventures

OMG!

In case you didn't notice, something happened on my last post that totally made my day. Rachel Khoo actually commented on my post about her. :) . Thanks Rachel. I hope that someday I can be at least be half the cook/chef person you are!

Today was my mama's birthday. I decided to do some cooking. I planned to make two things from Rachel's book; Gratin de choufleur avec une chapelure aux noisettes ( Cauliflower bake with hazelnut crunch crust) and Gougeres ( Cheese puffs) And from another book; Panzella ( it's a salad).

It was the perfect idea, these three dishes would accompany my sisters chicken, potato and carrot roast. I started preparing the ingredients, when my sister put her roast in the oven, then realised I didn't have enough time so i had to forget about making the cheese puffs. *insert sadface here*

Everything turned out delicious. I'll post the recipe up for the panzella, you definitely have to make it, and if you're interested in Rachel's bake, you should buy her book, because there are many more amazing recipes to try.

Some things I learnt:

I decided to make the bake with cauliflower and broccoli, without realising that broccoli cooks faster than cauliflower, and also that I wouldn't be able to separate them once I mixed them in with the cheese sauce. It still turned out great, though I think next time I'll only use one vegetable. And also, I let my mama help me with chopping the hazelnut, ( she put it into her food processor and made hazelnut meal) I think it shouldn't have been so fine!

rachel khoo, i love you x

A couple of months ago a friend of mine shared a link to a mutual friend on FaceBook. Thanks to FaceBook for being not so private, i was also privy to this link. :)))))

I instantly fell in love with Rachel Khoo and her Little Paris Kitchen. I loved her style, her accent, her kitchen, the way she cooks, and the food she cooks. I love you Rachel Khoo.

I am almost tempted to do as Rachel did, and pack my bags and enrol in a cooking school. Almost. But I wont. Why? Because, well Paris is not a short train journey 'across the Channel', it is at least a twenty hour flight. And also because I can't really cook. I'm not one of those hopeless no hope-ers. I just haven't really had the time to cook and often am totally satisfied with having peanut butter toast for dinner.

So...when i stumbled upon this book in Readings Bookstore in Carlton yesterday, you can guess how excited I was. Yep, SUPER excited.

My plan is to work my way through her cookbook, kinda like 'Julie and Julia' style. Hopefully my cooking skills will improve, and I will be a smidgen closer to being a little bit French.

I did some snooping online and found out Rachel Khoo has a blog too, you can bet yourselves I'll be following that now. I'll put the link up on the side of my blog for you too x

fourteen dollars thirty

$14.30

that's how much i won. three people won first prize in the lotto draw, i think they got about twenty five million dollars each. lucky them! when i checked my ticket and realised i'd won, i got excited. and then i realised i actually paid twenty one dollars sixty for the ticket, so i'm actually $7.30 down. oh well. :P

i started another tumblr, i don't know why, probably just because i can. and i called it 'seventy million dollars'. it's mainly composed of images, of things, that i think i could and would like to have if i actually had seventy million dollars. it looks something like this...

-- these outfits would be in my wardrobe --

-- there would be no difference between my lifestyle and anna's --

-- my boyfriend and i would dress like this --

-- i would have an engagement ring just like angelina's --

-- i'd be sitting here at a paris cafe with these ladies sipping on a latte --

i bought one

i bought one.

they say 'you've got to be in it to win it'. what do you think? yes. no. yes, of course. what are the odds though, of you know, actually winning. but if you don't buy it, you have no chance. i think this is probably the closest i'll ever be to actually having $70 million dollars, ever in my life. there is a lotto draw on tonight and the jackpot amount is seventy million dollars.

if i won. i'd have a lot of monies. gees, you could do so many, so many, so many things with seventy million dollars. imagine how many chanel clutches i could buy. or how many coffees seventy million dollars would buy me. i'd definitely have my own personal hairdresser, who would style my hair for me everyday. and probably a driver. although i quite like driving. would i still live in melbourne? i could live anywhere in the world i wanted if i had seventy million dollars. would i still do the same things i do in my every day life. would i still have the same friends, would i work. if i didn't work i'd probably get bored with my life.

you'd definitely have to do something good for the world. like as in help people in need. or build schools and things like that. would you help out your friends? would you buy a whole town and name it after yourself...'Julietville'... :P you could do anything really. do you think the money would change you, would you lose all your values and beliefs and morals if you had seventy million dollars? nothing would be there to stop you, to get in your way, fines and bills and expenses would no longer be an issue. some things to think about.

imagine checking your bank balance and seeing: $70,000,000.00 ( so many zeros).

hmmmm seventy million dollars...

ps. cafe mission is going just swell...i've got 41 down and another 244 to go!! if you want to follow my mission go to my tumblr : http://thejulietreport.tumblr.com/

i'm just going to drink some coffee as i ponder this idea of seventy million dollars.

Loved this place.

Amazing atmosphere, cool courtyard. It's a patisserie cafe. Delicious.

I had a hazelnut and a caramel macaron. The coffee was quite good.

I will definitely be going back for brunch, and more macarons.

rainy day and apple pie

Bonjour!

I bet that you didn't know that one of my favourite places is the airport. I wonder if any of you love airports as much as I do...

Why do I love them? Mainly because I love travelling. If I didn't care about finishing my degree and if I could take all of my favourite people with me and of course if I had an unlimited supply of cash monies, then I'd be on the next flight out of Melbourne and would just travel for ever and ever and ever.

So that's one reason, another reason is that there is so much going on, people coming, people going, people laughing, people crying, people waiting, people rushing, you get the idea?! It's really interesting to watch all this happen.

I also love those flickety boards, you know the ones, I don't remember right now what they're called but I took a picture of one today, it's picture two, just below. I like watching the information change. :P

As you'll see from the photos below, it was another busy day, I remembered my camera today and also bought the newspaper. YAY for me!

Just for your curiosity...
Picture one: is taken from inside my car, it was a rainy day, and in the photo hopefully you can make out two people walking each holding an umbrella.
Picture two: the flickety board at the airport.
Picture three: Me and my mums BFF, we're waiting for my mum to come through the gates at the airport (She's been in NYC for six weeks, the lucky duck) (I'm also wearing my new dress from CUE Winter 2012 Collection)
Picture four: My brother, my mother and her BFF, everyones nice and happy.
Picture five: our lunch. nomnomnom.
Picture six: I made everyone coffee and apple pies. delicious. The apple pies are just bought frozen from the supermarket, I didn't have time to bake, but they were so yummy.

Now...back to my homework!!!

inside my daily life

Hi.

It's me. I've just managed to pull myself away from everything else I'm supposed to be doing just to bring this new post to you. Coz, you know, sometimes I'm cool like that.

The photos that you'll see below are taken from my camera and some from my iPad. A couple of posts ago I mentioned that I'd like to take my camera with me everywhere I go everyday. I haven't managed to do this. Except for just the other day.

The photos were taken at Uni with my brother during our break.

one: playing around with PhotoBooth on my iPad.
two: my brother tweeting. He's obsessed with it.
three: my books. cool moleskine notebook. my fave pink highlighter and cool pen.
four: my brother changed his message tone to 'tweet' it's cute.
five: a section of my uni, i wonder why they chose to make everything green...
six: my brother and myself taking selfies with my iPad.

I hope you're all just amazing. Now I will be going back to what I was supposed to be doing, which is cleaning the house. *my mother has been away for six weeks and gets back tomorrow, I want the house to be nice and clean for her.* And then some homework, washing my hair and hopefully I'll have time to visit my boyfriend. I haven't read the paper today :/ I didn't really get a chance to, but hopefully tomorrow...
